Altea

Altea is a small unspoilt fishing town of white washed houses and cobbled streets crowned with a magnificent blue domed church nestling between the mountains and the sea just north of Benidorm.  It is a conservation area and truly lives up to its reputation as The Jewel of the Costa Blanca.

It is a cultural and artistic centre and a sportsman’s paradise.  There are many fiestas during the year, the biggest being at the end of September which is spectacular.  Every month there are activities that include music, art, theatre and dance.  The music varies from jazz to classical given by our own philharmonic orchestra.  Sporting activities include golf, sailing, cycling, tennis, squash, scuba diving, organised walks, riding, fishing and swimming in the sea or local pools.  There is a weekly fruit, vegetable and general market with something for everyone.  The palm-lined esplanade is full of inexpensive, good quality restaurants and bars plus a good variety in the picturesque old town.  Altea has a large harbour and fishing fleet with a marina and Yacht Club  with all facilities.

There are plenty of day trips amid breath taking mountainous scenery to castles, waterfalls caves and inland villages plus a beautiful coast line with beaches and bays and over 350 days of sunshine to enjoy it.  Come and see it to believe it.

The nearest airport is Alicante 45 minutes away.  From there you can either hire a car, get a taxi, bus or train to Altea.  The narrow gauge railway which runs from Alicante-Denia, one hour north, is popular for a day trip or as a means of getting from A to B.  The train operates through the night during the summer between Altea, Benidorm and Alicante to ease driving problems.  There are also plenty of buses to nearby villages and surrounding areas.
